We reviewed the important aspects of exterior decor, outdoor structures, and landscaping in the previous article.  In this section, we will review some important Vastu tips for interior design, decor,  coloring schemes, and appropriate furniture placements. (Published - Sept., 2021)

Vastu for Paintings and Statues

Vastu Shastra recommends that you do not keep paintings, statues, or memorabilia that depict sorrow, violence, anger, weapons, wild animals holding a prey etc., that can impact positive thought process.  Similarly, broken statues, clocks, earth ware, etc. should be removed from the house.

Vastu Guidelines on Mirror Placements

Mirror is a prominent feature in Feng Shui than Vastu Shastra. The science of a mirror placement is that it reflects the light and makes the room or area more brighter, larger, and may be wider. 

One prominent Vastu tip on mirror placement is keeping it against the East wall, while you get dressed up for work in the morning. The science behind this age old rule is that in a properly Sunlight lit room, the person facing East will have his/her face under natural light that is more inspiring or energizing than looking at a mirror in dimly lit room. Of course, you can add additional lighting to make yourself look brighter in the mirror.  There are similar tips for mirror placements in every area of the house.  When you get a proper Vastu evaluation of your property, discuss these with your expert Vastu consultant.

Vastu on Right Colors for Your Home for Positive Energy

This is a common question from most Vastu clients. Is there a color chart for what colors to apply to various walls, curtains, furniture etc.? The answer is NO.  Whatever you are seeing online as color schemes for Vastu Shastra are never described anywhere in Vastu scriptures (at least not we are aware of).

Wall Color Guidelines as per Vastu

The reality is that the colors that you see for various Paadas or areas on Vastu Purusha Mandala scheme or for rooms are based on the color choice associated with the deities ruling those areas.  You can't blindly follow these color schemes as your room layout and allocation would vary based on your house direction/orientation and floorplans.  You should contact an expert vastu consultant for further assistance before investing in color choices for walls, decor, and furniture.

Vastu Tips for Furniture Placement

You can get room layout and floor plan correctly for a house as per Vastu Shastra guidelines. But if the furniture placement does not align with the utility of the room, that defeats the purpose. 

For example, if you get the master bedroom in the South West corner, but place the bed with the head board against the North wall, the owners will not sleep well in that room and may develop health issues in a short period of time. Similarly, we can cite examples for every room in the house.  So you should check with an experienced Vastu Consultant, before finalizing the furniture layout and room design,  especially when constructing a new house or remodeling an existing one.

Vastu on Placement of Appliances

Similar to the furniture placement in rooms, Vastu Shastra gives guidelines for placement of appliances in a room based on room position and purpose. For example, in an office room, a printer could ideally be placed against the South East corner of the room. This may not be practical in all office rooms or study or work areas. 

We had discussed a similar example for kitchen Vastu and appliance placements. Whenever possible, you should try to stick to the recommended guidelines. When in doubt, seek the advice of a qualified Vastu Consultant near you.

Vastu for Indoor Plants

What are the advantages of keeping indoor plants in the house? The scientific fact is very clear. Plants give out oxygen and purifies indoor air.  So care should be taken to keep plants near east side windows or where ever they get adequate sunlight for living. Thorny plants like Cactus are not recommended indoors.
