Continued from Part 6- Building Shape, 15 + practical tips for better Vastu Compliance for homes in USA
In the previous sections, we reviewed the importance of shapes of buildings and rooflines in Vastu evaluation of a house, home, or office. In this section, we will review how the floor plans or relative position of rooms are governed by Vastu Shastra. (Published - Aug. 29, 2021)
As an introduction to Vastu compliant room allocations or Vasthu floor plans or Vaastu layouts, we would like to mention that any layout is dependent on the direction of the house. If the house is East facing in USA, the floor plan can have certain combinations based on where the rooms are located as per Vastu Purusha Mandala and the room purposes. If the house is West facing, the room allocation changes based on the direction, design of the house, and type of the room. Similarly for all other cardinal directions - North and South.
Vastu compliant floor plan or vasthu-wise allocation of various rooms can vary based on the residents using the house, their age and gender, purpose of the room, and relative position of the rooms. Why is this important?
Let us say, a family has 5 members including a husband and wife, a boy and girl as children, and an elder parent living with them. Based on these 5 members, if we review a home facing any cardinal direction, we will get different Vastu Compliance Score based on the directions. If the same house is used by a couple and their twins (boys or girls), the evaluation will give different results. If the home is meant for an elderly couple, who has no kids or whose children do not live with them, the combination or room allocation matrix and resulting score will change, based on the house directions. If the family has one elderly parent and two married children living with their spouses and kids, the house takes a whole new dimension in room layout that can be used beneficially by each individual. There is no template or one right answer that applies to the above situations, as the Vastu review results change for each house by direction and residents. So the rooms and positions mentioned in articles like - master bedroom in South West, kitchen in South East, Pooja room in North East etc. - may not always work in the exact order if you will have to make the best use of room layout as per your personal requirements. As you have already read, Vastu Shastra recommends shapes for rooms that are conducive to enhancing the energy and resulting effects on the inhabitants. An important aspect of these shapes (whether rectangle or square) is the dimensions and their ratios.
All Vastu measurements are done based on length-width ratio and over all perimeter of the room as well as the house. We do not want to stress this point as 99.99% of the homes will have at least a few rooms that defy this aspect. If you are building a custom home or doing extensive remodeling, we could get the measurements and perimeter of the house and rooms in order. Otherwise, it is not really worthwhile to worry about the dimensions and measurements.
Important- All room dimensions for rectangle or square shaped rooms should ideally be following ratios like 1:1, 1:1.25, 1:1.5, 1:2 etc. for width to length ratios along with appropriate perimeter values. The age and auspiciousness of the building is determined by these perimeter values (just like the age of a human being - Balya -toddler, Koumara- teens, Youvana- youth, Vardhakya - old age etc.) and the category quality (Good-Uthama, Average-Madhyama, Worse-Adhama categories). The younger the age of a building in the right (good/average) category, the more beneficial the house will be for the residents. This topic is very detailed and hence you should refer to an experienced Vastu Consultant, when you are doing remodeling or custom designs. For all other Vastu followers who are merely trying to make minimal or no changes to their homes or purchases, this topic is not worth pursuing.
This is a very common question that VastuTruth gets. You have identified a good property (in respect to construction quality, price, locality, school district, amenities, closer to work or school) and the house has room allocation in the wrong order. What should you do?
