Vastu Tips for House Exteriors, Home Backyard 

Vastu Shastra has clear guidelines on how to demarcate space, arrange and build structures in the front yard, side yards, back yard and on or top of the buildings (homes, houses, offices, commercial establishments).   Some of the fundamental principles start with proper building construction (layout) in the appropriate space on the levelled land.  Once this is done, there are areas around the building where you can have exterior features - water fountains, statues, sculptures, decks, gazebos, balcony, swings, trees etc. - can be placed correctly. You should get the property inspected by a qualified Vastu consultant before making any changes or improvements.

What all can you have in the front yard of a house? Obviously, you may not build a swimming pool. But you can have structures, gardens, trees, water elements, and  car ports  in front of the building.  Each of these components have a specific place around the building based on the nature, weight, energy flow (or energy interruption) to the building and its occupants.

Similarly, the backyard can have gazebos, decks, walk out or walk up stairs, swings, water elements, tall trees, rock or garden structures. They should be implemented or constructed based on their effect on the building and energy flow around the structure. For instance, one of our clients spent around $80,000 to build a nice swimming pool and a gazebo in the South West corner of the house and the wife started getting frequent health issues. Which Direction Should Your House Balcony Face?

Balcony or wide open spaces are not recommended around the house or buildings.  They should be placed in certain directions only based on location and orientation of the house. Some of our clients have bought expensive properties with balconies facing the water or lake or mountains and sought our help to alleviate the resulting issues. The remedial measures are not very easy and costly structural changes in lieu of changing the homes. Vastu Shastra does not recommend wide open spaces or porches or water elements in the certain corners or sides for a building in USA, based on the direction, land terrain, and shape.  Similarly excessive landscaping in the North East corner of a building is not recommended. Is a Large Backyard Space Good or Bad per Vasthu Shastra?

Theoretically, the South West side of property in Northern hemisphere should be smaller in size compared to North East quadrant based on Vastu principles. One of the fundamental principles in Vastu Shastra regarding building site selection process is to select the best plot available or choose the best/largest square or rectangular portion (aligned to cardinal directions) of the plot that you have and correct the irregularities with scientific vaastu remedies, and start the dwelling design planning and construction based on vasthu guidelines.
